Faster way of trellising the plant

Getting ready for the new crop? An Italian company has found a way that can help you getting ready for it fast. Their newly developed system helps growers to trellis the crops faster. Ideal Tutor aims at replacing the manual tying of plants.

"In agriculture, the productive process can make a huge difference in terms of time and labor costs," explains Alessandro Avarino, administrator of SIA Group, a company dealing with technical innovation in the greenhouse sector.

Better support
"Our greenhouse tutoring system is an extremely useful tool to better understand the time spent to support crops and to better manage the support system after the cultivation."

SIA Group manufactures agricultural tools, focusing on the development of new methods and technological systems that can improve greenhouse cultivation conditions.

"The traditional support technique is based on a supporting iron wire that needs to be tied to a series of wires positioned according to the same plants' sowing layout. Subsequently, they are hooked to the plant's stem or main branches," Alessandro explains. "This practice is obsolete and drives production costs up."

To better understand the effectiveness of the tutoring system, FreshPlaza talked to Alessando Corbino, producer from an area between Vittoria (RG) abd Acate (RG).

Threads in every row
"Our Ideal Tutor system consists of a ready-to-use structure made up of polyethylene threads that must be placed at the ends of rows. It can be used for the most popular greenhouse crops: tomatoes, eggplants, bell peppers, etc. Our system is truly versatile and allows for many combinations. There are also many hooks - simple or multiple - useful for anchoring."

The patented system is supplied in packaged reels and the total height and distance between vertical threads can be predetermined. The reel is unwound in correspondence of rows and the hooks are used for anchoring (see photo below).

"The Ideal Tutor system is increasingly appreciated by Italian greenhouse operators. Siriac Srl, an institution in the agricultural technology field, has become an exclusive official dealer of Ideal Tutor and Ideal Tutor Dinamico. The latter solution features a modular shelf system so that the crop can be lowered by 30-60 cm per module. The operation can be performed up to three times, so that plants can grow another 92-180 cm."

According to them, Ideal Tutor and Ideal Tutor Dinamico make operations easier and improve the agronomic livability of the greenhouse environment with an improvement of the phytosanitary and productive conditions.
