Carbon Gold’s Soil Improver is the first biochar product to receive approval for use in the RHP growing systems.
RHP, the organisation that assures the quality and security of substrates and substrate additives in Dutch commercial horticulture, has approved Carbon Gold’s enriched biochar product - Soil Improver - for use in its certified growing systems.
Cor-Jan Van der Elzen, European Commercial Manager at Carbon Gold, says, “We have a lot of Dutch customers already but, for those with RHP systems, our approval for use in their growing media will come as great news.
“Growers and propagators are looking for products and systems to improve plant resilience and plant health. Enriched biochar is a natural way to improve rooting and boost crop health, and our Soil Improver is now classified in Category BE by RHP.”
The RHP assessed the product on cultivation, nematode analyses and human pathogens while making sure it was clean and could be used safely without risks to cultivation of plants.
Biochar is a high-carbon, purified form of charcoal that improves the structure, aeration, water-holding capacity and nutrient retention of substrates. Importantly it provides a permanent refuge for beneficial soil microbiology, supporting crop health.
Carbon Gold’s Soil Improver is biochar enriched with fungi, beneficial bacteria and trace minerals. Crops treated with it in trials have been shown to have increased tolerance to pests and diseases and environmental pressures including drought and transplant shock. Biochar from Carbon Gold is FSC, FiBL, Demeter and Skal certified.
