There are no reports of any European companies producing hemp shoots. Or rather, there is only one: the company Vivo, which presents this novelty. The manager Andrea Farnedi: "Produced with certified seeds, with levels of THC and CBD according to law, hemp shoots have a pleasant appearance and a bitter taste that goes very well with summer dishes of meat and fish. The period is great for adding hemp shoots in mixed and seasonal salads.
The goal is to launch this highly innovative food at the Macfrut and to inform the general public about the potential and nutritional benefits of this sprout. Farnedi: "We are sure that the buyers of chains and large-scale distribution will be thrilled to find something new in a sector that, for some years now, has had few novelties. The production is carried out in our new plant in Cesena, certified IFS, BRC, GlobalGAP and BIO".
The main characteristic of these shoots is the abundance of vegetable proteins with high biological value, rich in all essential amino acids.
A portion of hemp shoots contains 12 grams of protein, or 17% of the daily protein requirements of a healthy adult, who needs about 2,000 kcal per day.
In addition, oilseeds could be considered an excellent supplement of essential fatty acids, omega 6 and omega 3 and, more generally, unsaturated fats: 100 g of seeds provide 35 g of unsaturated fats and 30 g of polyunsaturated fats. To meet the daily needs of omega 6 and 3, just take one tablespoon of sativa hemp seeds every day. They are also an excellent source of gamma-linoleic acid, which contributes to maintain hormonal balance.
