Agricultural products from Gaoxiong flood the Japanese market

Official opening of International Food Exposition in Tokyo

The 2019 International Food Exposition in Tokyo stands next to the ANUGA in Cologne, Germany, and the SIAL in Paris, France, as one of the three largest specialized food expositions in the world. The official opening took place on March 5th in Tokyo. The municipal government of Gaoxiong came with a delegation of 6 specialized agricultural groups to create the "Gaoxiong Produce" exhibition. The mayor of Gaoxiong expressed the desire to increase its supply to the Japanese market.

The first International Food Exposition in Tokyo was organized in 1976, and since then it has become the largest specialized food exposition in Asia. This is the 44th session. The expected number of participating producers is 3,316, with 4,554 stands, attracting more than 85 thousand visitors. Around 90% of the visitors are Japanese wholesale dealers, restaurants, manufacturers, and retailers. The number of overseas visitors is expected to reach almost 10 thousand. This is obviously an important platform for the development of agricultural industry in Japan, Asia, and the world.

Fruit export from Gaoxiong to Japan includes lychees, pineapples, bananas, and jujubes. The export volume reached 1,013 tons last year. The export volume of bananas and candied jujubes already reached 300 tons in the first quarter of 2019, and the overall export volume is expected to double this year.
