The roughly 250 Burgenland vegetable growers produce a total of 1,455 ha in glasshouses, film tunnels and in the field, the various types of vegetables such as salads, Paradeiser, peppers, Chinese cabbage, celery, cabbage and cabbage or root vegetables such as carrots, leeks and onions. They generate € 25 million annually.
The products are mainly marketed through joint marketers, such as distribution company Seewinkler Sonnengemüse, the Gemüseerzeugerorganisation Ostösterreich (GEO) and the trade, but also the marketing from the farms directly has a high priority.
Following the resignation of Florian Bell in October 2018, Josef Peck (here at the joint stand at the Fruit Logistica 2019) is the sole director of the two companies LGF-Frischgemüse and Seewinkler Sonnengemüse. A substantial part of Burgenland's products is marketed through this cooperation.
Vegetable growing in Burgenland has an annual value added of around 25 million euros. "Our vegetable growers operate according to the stringent AMA seal of approval guidelines and must maintain consistent records that are constantly monitored and certified by an independent body, and are constantly sampled and inspected in recognized laboratories to ensure that only the highest quality is available to retail chains or sold directly by the farmers," says Martin Rieschl, chairman of the vegetable production association.
