Greenhouse glass shortage in Turkish market

Due to the heavy rain, a lot of greenhouses in Antalya were flooded in the last few weeks. A lot of growers have sustained significant losses in their production in addition to the damage to the greenhouses.

Another production area in Mersin, a city also known for its agricultural production in Turkey especially for citrus fruits were also hit by heavy rain and tornadoes which damaged a lot of tomato and banana greenhouses in the district.

All growers are asking for the state’s assistance to recover their losses. They are asking the state bank to postpone their outstanding debts and provide low interest bank loans for them to rebuild their greenhouses.

Another problem in the market is that as many growers need glass to repair their greenhouses, there is a shortage of greenhouse glasses in the market and manufacturers are having a hard time in keeping up with the sudden spike in the demand. Growers have also asked the state’s lending hand to solve this shortage of supply problem so they can repair their greenhouses as soon as possible to re-start production.
