New greenhouse, lower quarterly results for Swedish tomato grower

After investing in a new greenhouse, the Swedish tomato grower Peckas Naturodlingar reported a significant decrease in turnover and profits for the last quarter. As a result of replanting and increased competition during the summer months, sales fell by 36 percent in the third quarter compared to the previous quarter.

"The replanting was necessary for the introduction of a new production cycle for the coming twelve months. In addition, we had to temporarily hire more people," says Elena Petukhovskaya, general manager of the company.

Because of the replanting, only half of the tomatoes were available for sale. The other half was transplanted in mid-October. On a positive note, the new greenhouse will more than double the size of the nursery. This ensures the company of future growth capacity.
