A hailstorm and heavy rain have damaged over 10 hectares of tomato and pepper greenhouses in Mersin (Turkey), which cannot be used anymore. The growers are asking for government support to help with their losses.
A lot of greenhouse roofs have collapsed and the growers lost a significant amount of their production as a result. The estimated damage is approximately 300,000 USD.
The growers were already barely keeping their businesses alive, and with this incident, they are at the mercy of the government to be able to continue their operations, otherwise most of the growers will have to declare bankruptcy. All the growers in the area have called on the government and state authorities to take action, asking for financial assistance to stay afloat during this difficult time.
