“Water is the most essential nutrient for plants. Healthy and productive water supports a profitable greenhouse, resulting in improved yields, longer shelf-life and reduced risk of disease.” Speaking is Jim Shubat, co-founder and CTO of SanEcoTec® Ltd. The Company developed the AVIVE® water treatment system, which they showed during the well-attended Canadian Greenhouse Conference in early October.
The AVIVE system is an engineered solution, combining key technologies with sustainable disinfection methods and water quality know-how to provide healthy water. According to Jim, this combination is key. “Some of the individual filtration and pre-treatment elements may vary depending on the application, but we always use our monitoring and water quality control technology and the best stabilized, most science-based hydrogen peroxide out there, Huwa-San® Peroxide,” says Jim.
“By doing so, we can support the complete irrigation system: drip irrigation, overhead misting and storage tanks. Our system ensures that the water management runs smoothly from the start.” According to Jim, one of the big advantages of AVIVE is the ability to act before something is wrong in your crop. “By monitoring the water quality and controlling peroxide dosing and demand, we can guarantee the water system is safe from the start. AVIVE helps protect against contamination through the water supply and controls biofilm formation. It’s insurance for your crop.”
It sounds fascinating - but how does it work? What’s the science behind it? Huwa-San Peroxide is a new generation of hydrogen peroxide with a unique stabilization method that makes it equal to or more effective than chlorine products. It has been tested extensively in public drinking water applications. “Unlike many harsh chemicals used in water treatment, Huwa-San creates no negative by-products. It breaks down to water and oxygen with the dissolved oxygen supporting root health,” Jim explains.
What makes the product even more relevant is the water disinfecting capabilities. Hydrogen peroxide is known to work against a host of micro-organisms. Huwa-San has shown to do so more effectively with a fraction of the dose and many times the result. Since it breaks down gradually and as needed in irrigation water, it works its way through the water network. While doing so, the hydrogen peroxide controls biofilm and protects water quality to the last dripper.
“It will keep a protective residual from the initial dosing point to the end of the irrigation network – maintaining biological control on its way. And that’s how the complete system is treated,” Jim explains. “This way we effectively maintain microbiological control and exceptional water quality.”
