The second harvest period for the greenhouse training program is about to start in the Karaisali town of Adana (Turkey). The goal of the program was to teach growers about proper greenhouse production techniques and methods and the project is carried out in a 1.2 hectare practice field where 2 growers will grow products here for 3 years.
Each greenhouse was planted with 1,250 tomato seedlings and in the first harvest 6 tons of products were collected from the first greenhouse and 7 tons of products from the second greenhouse. Now the second harvest period is rapidly approaching.
One of the participants in the project, grower Ramazan Aydin, said: “I have been growing tomatoes in the open field for quite some time, now I’m learning about greenhouse production. I believe greenhouse production is more beneficial in the long term.”
The project is set to continue with another group of growers in the next phase and the goal is to encourage all the growers in Karaisali town to start greenhouse production in the long term.
