US (NM): Researchers expect lower threat from curly top virus for chilli peppers

New Mexico State University plant and weed specialists are warning chilli pepper growers to watch for the curly top virus. Southwest Farm Press reports the disease devastated the state's chilli industry in the past.

Experts say most growers won't have a major problem this year, and early and mid-season weed control programs will help minimize potential outbreaks.

The virus is most prevalent in warm weather, but it can live throughout the year on host weeds.
