Ukraine: Fresh produce delivered straight from producer to consumer in Kherson
The public organization "Land of Tavria" has implemented the project "Vegetable Post" in the Kherson region.
It aims to improve the supply of fresh vegetables and fruits from producer to consumer, minimising the logistics chain, and helping small and medium-sized local producers optimise their production by growing their products to order.
This has been reported by the department of agro-industrial development of the Kherson regional state administration.
According to Oleksandr Sinyuk, head of "Land of Tavria", today there are a fairly large number of consumers of fruit and vegetable products (restaurants, cafes, bars, hotels) interested in the regular supply of niche crops.
"There are enough producers of exotic vegetables and fruits in the Kherson region growing sweet potatoes, asparagus, coloured potatoes, nutmeg, various herbs and spices, etc., which are cheaper and better than foreign analogues," he said.
"Vegetable Post" is already used by half a dozen establishments on the coast of the Kherson region.
However, "Vegetable Post" is not only intended for restaurants; the plan is to make it possible for fresh vegetables to be ordered and delivered to your door, and ordinary citizens will be able to do that too.
In the future, the project will be expanded to the Zaporozhye, Odesa and Mykolaiv regions.
