Torac controls several key pests that impact vegetable crops including aphids, diamondback moth, flea beetle, pepper weevil, psyllids, and thrips. Additionally, Torac has contact fungicidal activity, offering control of powdery mildew in cucurbit vegetables.
The active ingredient in Torac, tolfenpyrad, works by blocking cellular respiration and is effective on all life stages of the pest: eggs, larvae, nymphs, and adults. Torac causes rapid cessation of feeding and control of the pest(s) usually within 24 to 48 hours. Torac belongs to the METI (Mitochondrial Electron Transport Inhibitor) class of compounds, IRAC Group 21A Insecticide. For effective resistance management, Torac should be used in rotation with insecticides of different modes of action.
Torac is a contact, foliar insecticide which means that sufficient spray coverage is essential. Based on the label, growers can make two applications per crop cycle using rates of 14 to 21 fl oz/acre, depending on the targeted pest. The label also states a 12-hour reentry interval (REI) and a 1-day preharvest interval (PHI) for all crop groups listed.
