China: Bacterial Fruit Blotch found in chili seeds from Italy
Recently, the inspectors from Zhejiang Quarantine and Inspection Bureau inspected a batch of chili seeds imported from the UK, but originally from Italy and sent some samples to the lab for further testing. According to the results from both of the labs from the Technic Center of Zhejiang and Shanghai Entry/ Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau, a harmful species was detected: Melon Bacterial Fruit Blotch.
This is the first time that such a harmful bacteria has been found in chili seeds, and also the first time that a harmful species has been found among imported botanical products arriving in Hangzhou Airport.
