Good results with phytophthora treatment in Danish strawberries

In the beginning of this year Kalina Kozub became the new proud owner of Danish horticulture producer Skovhavegård Bær ApS. Together with her husband Lars Friis, who is also a partner in the Lindflora young plant company, Kalina is growing a variety of strawberry crops in both heated greenhouses and table top production.

The total acreage of the strawberry nursery is 2,9 hectare. Skovhavegård grows the varieties Elsanta, Favori, Varity and Malling Centenary of Dutch strawberry breeder Van Alphen. Since the Malling variety is susceptible to the phytophtora disease, Kozuib decided to treat her irrigation water with the copper-fertilization method of Aqua-Hort.

Aqua-Hort treats irrigation water with electrolysis in order to fight bacteria and fungus that can damage plants. The electromagnetic force exerted on treated water literally pulls bacteria apart, causing them to die. The electrolysis system based on the use of copper is an effective way to treat water against fungus and bacteria, but it also helps to establish a healthy root and plant development.

In May 2017, Skovhavegård installed the Aqua-Hort unit. A dosage of 2 ppm was started. Ever since her new crop was placed in the greenhouses in July, no signals of Phytopthora have appeared. " The plants are in excellent health. There are no crop losses and we harvest a fine quality fruit", Kozub said.

Also in the the table top plants, Kozub notices good results. "The crop has produced extremely good yields. We will reach a 2 kg. level for the 2017 season. It is unheard for growers in our location (Northern Europe) to produce 2 kg. per plant. The crop stands now by the end of August in very good health. Plenty of new fruits are underway."

"The very good results at Skovhavegaard Bær are no doubt the outcome of many good inputs, but Aqua-Hort is an important part of the success. An indispensable tool for achieving such results."
