Expansion plans for former Cornerways Nursery glasshouse
UK: GW Pharma to expand operations
GW Pharma, the company that is growing medicinal marijuana at the former tomato glasshouses of Cornerways Nursery, has plans to gear up its plant growing and processing operations over the next year.
The 18 hectare glasshouse of British Sugar has been completely retrofitted for the cultivation of a non‐psychoactive variety marijuana over the last year. This type of marijuana is used by GQ Pharmaceuticals to produce medicines for Epilepsy and multiple sclerosis patients.
Adam George, UK managing director for GW, told the Telegraph that his firm was expanding in Britain to meet anticipated demand for the epilepsy treatment should it get the green light. GW plans to invest £50m in capital funding over the next three years and to recruit 70 new staff. The expansion comes off the back of hiring 100 staff over the past 12 months, taking its UK headcount to 400.
