Price of yellow pepper down - red and green follow

"On Wednesday July 5, the pepper price in Belgium was still at a quite a good level. 1.15 was given for green, 1.40 for red and yellow was at 80 cents. The prices had also been at a good level in previous weeks and varied from 1.20 to 1.80," according to a Belgian trader.

In general, the pepper season has been very good so far. The trader expects the prices of red and green to slowly drop to the level of yellow over the coming weeks. "The other colours will follow. There is more than enough supply at the moment and it's the holiday period in Belgium. They might not drop until next week, but it's likely to start today (Friday 7 July)."

Compared to other greenhouse vegetables the peppers are doing well, according to the trader. "We have seen a low price level in other products for a longer time, but pepper growers have had it good so far this season."
