“Belgian cucumbers are in demand”

The trade in vegetables is going well. “About two or three weeks ago, the vegetable market started recovering. There is decent demand for various products, including butterhead lettuce, leek and chicory. Naturally, we are now getting more Belgian products, such as cucumbers. The cucumbers are much in demand right now. I have also heard multiple traders say that the trade in carrots is not going well at all. Apparently, that trade is somewhat disappointing this year. But we cannot complain in general, it is definitely not less than it was around this time last year.”

Tomatoes still fairly expensive
According to Jonathan, butterhead lettuce is quite in demand. “Prices have been stable for a while already: around 35 cent. Tomatoes remain fairly expensive. I think we will have plenty of own production in a few weeks, and production will increase. It is still too expensive for some of our customers right now, so it is mostly for those who specifically ask for it.”

“The sun should be shining a bit more,” according to the trader. “We are now having more greenhouse vegetables, such as bell peppers. We now have some green bell peppers. It is all starting to arrive now. Sunshine would also be good for sales, more tomatoes and cucumbers are cultivated when it is sunnier. But we naturally cannot control the weather.” Weiss mainly exports to Germany.
