Enza Zaden's new eggplant is a rockstar: Bowie

Bowie. That's the name of the new eggplant variety E37H.01734 of Enza Zaden. The name was announced at HortiContact last week and Dutch eggplant grower Zwinkels, who is already growing this variety on 7,5 hectares, attended this moment and received a special 'Bowie' panel.

"Market conditions are changing constantly," Enza Zaden representative Frank van der Spek said. "There is now a demand for a somewhat larger variety that produces more fruits of 300 to 400 grams. After eggplant variety Bartok we have satisfied this need for a somewhat bigger variety with Bowie. The HortiContact was the ideal moment to baptize this variety together with the growers."

Bowie has excellent fruit quality that one is accustomed to from Enza Zaden. It's a labor-friendly variety with a high production total. In addition, it produces a high percentage of fruit of between 300 and 400 grams each. The fruits have a beautiful black color, do not color red and have good shelf life. Bowie is not susceptible to rotting of the fruit, not even during autumn. These are the characteristics that make the variety stand out head and shoulders over other varieties.
