The top 10 biggest retailers in the world

Every year, Deloitte publishes a list of the 250 largest retail chains in the world. In 2016, Walmart remained number one, Aldi and Carrefour drop a few places, and for the first time, Amazon is in the top 10. Consultancy bureau Deloitte has been publishing the ‘Global Powers of Retailing’-report for the past 20 years. This report is based on the financial figures of 2015.

Belgium and the Netherlands
Ahold and Delhaize are still noted separately in the list of Deloitte. Ahold is on spot 23 and Delhaize on 34, if combined then Ahold Delhaize would end on the 13th spot. Colruyt Groups is the market leader in Belgium. This group from Halle is on spot 120, Intermarché on 32, and Louis Delhaize on 107. From the Netherlands, we find Jumbo on spot 161.

E-commerce
Deloitte also notes the growth rate. This mainly includes the e-commerce companies. The two swiftest growing in the list are online retailers: Vipshop and JD.com, both are Chinese companies. The largest online retailers are Amazon, followed by JD.com, Apple, and Walmart. The largest European companies are Casino (#13), Zalando (#15), E.leclerc (#22), vente-privee.com (#29), Metro (#30), Ahold (#36), and Carrefour (#46).
