Bulgaria stops batches of peppers from Turkey

Last week, Bulgarian customs services stopped five hazardous batches of fruits and vegetables from Turkey. Two batches consisted of green peppers with an excessive amount of chlorpyrifos insecticide and another one with too much acrinathrin. The volume of these shipments totaled 540 kg, 1650 kg and 940 kg, respectively.

Also, 0.446 mg/kg of chlorpyrifos were detected in five tonnes of lemons, which is 10 times the safe health standard, and the customs services stopped a consignment of dried apricots with an excessive content of sulphite, as reported by the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) in the European Union.

The risk to human health is serious, so it was announced that the shipments would be destroyed.
