Organic sales grow by 17.8% in Denmark

New figures from research company Nielsen shows that sales of organic products has grown by no less than 17.8 per cent in the first half of 2016, compared with the same period last year.

It is a further acceleration compared to an already significant growth of 12 per cent seen in 2015.

Rasmus Sarauw-Nielsen, Retail Analytics Nordic Leader at Nielsen, said that the positive growth is a result of the major focus on organic ranges by supermarket chains, along with marketing to enhance development.

Organic lines are now so widespread among Danes that it has become a competitive advantage for supermarkets and discount stores. This has led to an increased marketing of the organic range across the retail sector, which in turn has helped to accelerate organic consumption.

The top 5 fastest growing catergories in organic are, vegetables-170 million kr., fruit - 107 million kr, followed by eggs, dairy products and juice at 30 million. kr.
