A joint effort between the Tel Aviv-Jaffa Municipality's Community and Sports Department and the Health Ministry aims to encourage students to eat healthier. The cooperation resulted in the installing of vending machines that provide fresh fruit in several schools in Tel Aviv.
The new school year began on Thursday 1 September.
Fruit vending machines will also be placed in community recreational centers, where children spend much of their day.
Last April, the Education Ministry issued an internal memorandum to promote a more balanced diet for students.
Subsequently, the Education Ministry issued a directive to day care centers and schools, which is already in effect, banning them from selling and serving unhealthy food on their premises.
