UK: 'Posh' packed lunches on the rise
Health-conscious workers in the UK are turning their backs on supermarket meal deals and increasingly opting for celebrity-chef inspired on-the-go meals. The Telegraph has described it as a packed lunch revolution sweeping the country.
Researchers at Kantar Worldpanel, a consumer analyst, found adult packed lunch boxes are coming back in fashion with 26pc more 25 to 35-year-olds choosing to take them to work than last year.
It meant that adults made and consumed an additional seven million packed lunches last year compared with 2014.
The trend is thought to be fuelled in part by workers being inspired by celebrity chefs who are expanding into convenient lunchtime recipes as they strive to fill the gap in the market.
Far from the traditional sandwiches in Tupperware, a rising number of workers opting to take artisan-style lunches to work in sealable glass jars.
This creates a more upmarket feel to their meal and also allows them to pour hot water over noodles or vegetables and create an instant meal which food critics have dubbed as the "posh-pot noodle".
Sandwiches remain the most popular packed lunch ingredient, but other items such as yoghurt, fruit, savoury snacks and crisps have increased by up to 17pc.
