Italy: Positive period for courgettes and aubergines in Verona
After a difficult winter, the situation of the courgette and aubergine market seems to have improved on the Verona wholesale market.
Wholesaler Nino Leonardi explains that "courgettes are being sold at around 80 cents per kg and the same goes for aubergines. These prices are average of this period, especially considering that only local open field produce is available since late April, which of course has lower transport prices."

"Volumes are not excessive. In the past few years, produce from Latina and Campania was also available during this period but it is not the case this year. Consumption though decreased with respect to a few years ago."
The only exception is represented by purple aubergines, whose prices are around €1.50/kg because volumes are scarce. "Sicilian production is almost over and the local production is scarce."
Prices are expected to be stable over the next few weeks.
