GlobalGAP gets new fair produce add-on
Uli Schnier, Chairman of Fair Produce, stated that “by cooperating with GlobalGAP, Fair Produce will get extensive international recognition, in addition to the high appreciation it already enjoys in the Netherlands.”
“We appreciate Fair Produce’s openness and willingness to collaborate with GlobalGAP”, said Dr. Kristian Moeller, CEO of GlobalGAP. “Only through such partnerships can standard owners succeed in reducing unnecessary duplication for farmers in their efforts to meet different customer requirements.”
GlobalGAP certified producers who fulfill the rules and inspection checklist of the Fair Produce Add-on will be registered as Fair Produce certified in the GlobalGAP Database.
Fair Produce guarantees that products that meet the requirements of the Fair Produce supply chain quality mark have been grown and traded by workers who are treated fairly. This means that workers get a fair wage, have proper housing, and work in safe conditions.
Fair Produce aims to promote good employment practices throughout the horticultural chain. Fair Produce certified companies in the Netherlands meet stricter requirements than the law requires. Currently, the certification is mainly focused on the mushroom sector. However, Fair Produce plans to modify its modular system for use in other food-producing horticultural businesses.
