Video: Japanese technology to grow Russian cucumbers
In the regional capital, cucumbers from a Russian-Japanese greenhouse project are being sold; at the moment their cost exceeds two hundred rubles and is not competitive, but the situation is set to soon change.
Presently two types of cucumber can be bought in Khabarovsk: "Meva" - a long salad cucumber and "Kibriya" - short but crisp. The price per kilogram of cucumbers in the regional capital’s stores ranges from 242 to 259 rubles, and in the company’s store - from 204 to 231 rubles.
''Cucumbers are cheaper in our store due to minimal margins and also the lack of expenditure on special packaging for the goods. Here we can sell any quantity of cucumbers, as there is no need to pack them,’’ said Ekaterina Panova, Assistant General Director of Jay Ji Si Evergreen.
However, at the request of the Minister of agriculture and rural development of the Khabarovsk Territory, Alexander Kupryakova, the price of these products could soon be even lower. He explains that if the gas and electricity tariffs are reduced, the cost of production can be lowered and subsequently the price of the end product can be adjusted. They are looking into reaching an agreement with the regional government to make this possible, as well as adjusting prices to buyers’ purchasing power.
However, he also noted that a radical drop in prices will not take place, because the investor has to recoup the investment and make a profit in future developments.
