Spain: Almería mayor visits Agrupalmería

The Mayor of Almería, Ramón Fernández-Pacheco, visited the premises of the fruit and vegetable company Agrupalmería, a member of the Femago Group, alongside the new directors of the company, Begoña Góngora and Pablo Maleno, and the Councillors of Agriculture, Juanjo Alonso, and of Distrito Bahía, Juanjo Segura. The Mayor praised "the high standards upheld by a company so closely linked to the Almeria suburb of La Cañada to be able to produce the best and tastier tomatoes."

Wealth and employment
The Mayor has been able to take a look at the different tomato varieties marketed by this family business, one of the province's leading fruit and vegetable marketers, and highlighted "the wealth and employment generated in the region," as well as "the excellent tomatoes produced by our growers and which are exported to destinations all over the world."

Standing behind the growers
Begoña Góngora, meanwhile, thanked the Mayor for his support to the sector and said that the success of Agrupalmería and Femago Group "is the result of standing behind the growers, listening to them, working together on a daily basis, responding to their needs, investing in innovation, opening new markets and professionalising all areas."

Committed to the sector
The Mayor explained to the heads of the company how important the agricultural sector is for the Council, and has consequently conveyed his commitment to support it at municipal level, improving rural roads, supporting our producers in national and international fairs, promoting rural hygiene and, of course, seeking dialogue and consensus through the Municipal Agriculture Council; an entity devoted to dialogue, consultation and advice, which will hold its first meeting this month.

A group with a long history
Agrupalmería is part of the Femago Group, one of the main fruit and vegetable marketers of Almería, with over 80 years of history. With a volume of 150 million kilos of fruit and vegetables a year, it has 12 centres spread across the provinces of Almeria and Granada that give employment to 600 workers. Agrupalmería's specialty is green tomatoes, and especially the RAF variety.
