V-Markt Munich Balansstrasse

"Germany: "When local products are available we gladly take them into our assortment"

“Simply better shopping” is the promise the family-run company Georg Jos. Kaes GmbH gives its customers. Regardless of whether it is local vegetables or exotic fruit, the customers can find whatever their hearts desire at the fruit and vegetable counter at the V-Markt in the Munich Balansstraße.

The fruit and vegetable counter
The fruit- and vegetable area is a figurehead for every supermarket. Here, the customer immediately sees whether the products are fresh and of good quality. “Our fruit and vegetable department is relatively large and extensive. Freshness and presentation of the products are of high importance to us,” depicts Martin Glöckner, a spokesperson for the company. “Beside the classic products, we also have many unusual products. It's not just apples and bananas, but also various southern fruits and lettuce varieties.” Furthermore, the customer has the option to choose between conventional and organic products.

We buy national or imported products through agencies. However, when local products are available on the domestic market, we take a firm hold and happily take them into our assortment,” says Martin Glöckner. “Be it in individual markets or all across the company. When certain products are “en vogue” in certain locations, we attempt to acquire these for our markets in those places. For example apples from Lake Constance or Bavarian cucumbers.”

Price and quality
“Price and quality should go hand in hand,” the expert further explains, “the best possible quality for reasonable prices. Naturally, quality is primarily important. It shouldn't be that quality suffers due to a low price. The reverse is of course also true. Our fruit and vegetables should remain affordable for our customers. Thus we pay special attention to affordable and fair prices.”

The fundamental philosophy of V-Markt is that one would want to offer their customers a broad assortment. “Not only at the fruit- and vegetable counter, but also with our other products. The customer needs to have a broad selection of products. From inexpensive entry-level products to the products of a somewhat higher quality.” Beside the normal fruit and vegetables, V-Markt also has an extensive organic assortment – from bananas to spices.

The “Drive-market”
If it needs to be fast, the second Munich market in the Euro-industrial park offers a special feature: “In our second Munich market, the so-called “drive-market”, one can shop online,” Glöckner explains. “The customer composes the shopping basket online, which is packaged on-site by our employees, and then the customer only needs to pick it up.”
