Spain: Slight increase anticipated for acreage bell peppers

The bell peppers team of Syngenta has received information on the state of affairs in the production areas of Almeria and Murcia. The table below shows the acreage distribution in these two production regions:

The color distribution of the block peppers is as follows:
- Almeria: 75% red and 25% yellow
- Murcia: 80% red and 20% yellow

At present, the production of peppers in Spain only comes from Murcia. The production of yellow peppers began in early April and the production of red peppers in mid-April.

Pricing was good, as lower production volumes were realized in Almeria because of the cold winter and the early end of the season. "We expect a small increase in acreage (3-5%) in bell peppers for Almeria and Murcia next season. In Murcia, growth will be mainly in yellow, as there is now a shortage of yellow peppers," the team from Syngenta states.
