Watermelon juice from Florida proving popular
Besides that, it’s fresh. And at this time of year, it’s been grown in Southwest Florida.
At 95 percent watermelon juice, growers of the melons and producers of the juice, Frey Farms, throw in a little white grape juice. But it’s all about the watermelon.
Rich in the antioxidant lycopene and the amino acid L citruline, one 12-ounce bottle of Tsamma Juice, its makers say, also contains 45 percent of the recommended daily vitamin C and 20 percent of the vitamin A. It contains no artificial flavors, preservatives or sweeteners. It’s cold-pressed, which means friction inevitably created by the grinding and pressing process is kept under control so the juice never reaches temperatures above 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
Florida is one of the first states in which it is available, said part-time Naples resident and Frey Farms CEO Sarah Frey-Talley. That’s because the first crop of the year is grown about 6 miles south of LaBelle. It’s juiced and bottled in Winter Haven.
