With less than ten days to go to the British Tomato Week, it is a good moment to take a look at the current offerings in the UK supermarket shelves. According to the latest report from Produce View, only 3 of the UK supermarkets have British grown baby Plum tomatoes available this week: Asda, Morrisons and Waitrose. Other UK retailers have tomatoes from Morocco (Tesco, Aldi) or from Spanish production (Lidl, M&S, Co-op and Sainsbury's. We think that it is the best time to change this!
The British cucumbers are more in favour on the UK supermarket shelves; 5 of the 9 supermarkets visited have British cucumbers available; Waitrose, M&S, Asda, Sainsbury's and Tesco. Dutch cucumbers could be found at Lidl, Aldi and Morrisons, while Co-op is still providing Spanish cukes. The Spanish cucumber at the Co-op is also the most expensive cucumber; 69 pence! UK and Dutch cucumbers were on sale from 44 pence (Aldi) to 60 pence at M&S.
