Ukraine: Greenhouse vegetable prices down 30%

According to "APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits", Ukraine's price index for the previous week (18-24 April 2015) dropped by 3.3%, after falling by 14.0% in the previous week. This happened mostly due to the sharp drop in greenhouse vegetable prices, since traditional vegetables and fruits mostly became more expensive.

As reported by Tatiana Getman, Head of" APK-Inform: Vegetables and Fruits", this trend did in no way affect potatoes, which became cheaper as a result of oversupply.

Greenhouse vegetables showed the same trend, against the background of improved weather conditions. Greenhouse vegetable prices fell by 30%, with lower prices for cucumbers and tomatoes.

Meanwhile, fruit prices increased by 4.1%; the appreciation of apples and mandarins was partially offset by a slight decrease in the price of bananas.

It is worth noting that potatoes are currently the most affordable product in the fruit and vegetable basket for Ukrainians, with a wholesale price not even reaching 2 UAH/kilo (0.087 Euro/kilo). Greenhouse tomatoes remained amongst the most expensive with an average price of 37 UAH/kilo (1.62 Euro/kilo).
