Germany: ‘The plot with the lowest productivity became the most productive'

Blueberry Giant is 40 hectares large and is based in Weeze, Germany. The farm used NatuGro for the second time in 2014, enjoying good results once again.

Crop Manager Jo Berden is satisfied with the results so far. ‘We saw visibly better growth in 2013, particularly in spring. This is important for the development of the flower buds; after all, the stronger the flower buds are, the more fruit you will end up with.’ Jo Berden now also has figures available. The treated plot, five hectares in size, produced fifteen per cent more blueberries (in kilograms). It wasn’t that there were so many more berries, but that the berries were larger and heavier. ‘Although the difference between the treated and untreated crops was not quite as large in 2014, it is clear to me that NatuGro allows the crop to absorb the nutrients provided better.’

Richer soil life, greater resistance

He emphasises that the plot concerned always used to have the lowest productivity; now it is the most productive. ‘Without doubt, that is due to NatuGro. Research has also demonstrated that the soil life is richer and more varied. The soil now contains more of the useful micro-organisms.’ Jo Berden has also observed that less damage by scale insects was evident in the treated plot. ‘The crop has therefore
also become more resistant.’
