a new report from ProduceView the UK retail prices of large vine tomatoes were recorded. The prices are monitored at three supermarkets in the UK, namely: Waitrose, Aldi, and Co-op. The prices have been monitored over the last 15 weeks. This week, the retail prices of large vine tomatoes are between £1.83 (Waitrose and £3.70 (Co-op) per kilo. The average retail price is 3.67 per kilo. Over the last 14 weeks, from 08-12-2014 till 16-03-2015 the average retail price of the large vine tomatoes slightly increased by 3.45%, from £3.77 to £3.90 per kilo. This week, however, the retail prices dropped by 8.72%, from £3.90 to £3.56 per kilo, compared with last week. This is due to the fact that the large vine tomatoes are on promotion at Waitrose this week. The retail price is 20% lower due to this promotion, from £5.70 per kilo to £4.50 per kilo.
In general, the large vine tomatoes originate from Spain, Italy, Canary Islands, and the Netherlands. Interestingly, Waitrose only offers large vine tomatoes from the Netherlands and Aldi only from Spain. Co-op offer large vine tomatoes from three different countries; Spain, Canary Islands and Italy.
