Hortiplan and Philips LED Horti join forces

Hortiplan and Philips Horticulture LED Solutions are now part of each other’s international partner network. The parties made the relationship official in February by signing the cooperation contract during the Horticulture Business Days in Gorinchem.

As a certified LED Horti Partner, the Belgian company Hortiplan will from now on install Philips lighting systems in Belgium. Hortiplan is known for the innovative character of its products. Internationally it is a leading player with its Mobile Gully System (MGS), an automated system for growing leaf vegetables on water, such as lettuce or herbs.

Mobile gully system
Hortiplan is the worldwide market leader for these mobile gully systems. The hydroponic cultivation of leaf vegetables has become reality thanks to these systems. With this cultivation system software controls the movement of the gullies containing plants from the planting side to the harvesting station. The plants are fed by means of NFT (nutrient film technique). Water enters each gully through an individual inlet and flows through the channel as a thin film.

Together strong
Because of both parties’ many years of experience, worldwide expertise and continuous innovation, the collaboration ensures that LED technologies in Belgium will be brought to a new level of commercial production. Philips LED lighting offers many advantages for horticulture, such as earlier blooming, faster root growth/germination and more efficient use of the available space. The advantages of sustainability, year-round cultivation and the short payback period demonstrate that LED lighting is the future in horticulture.

Horti LED partnership
Philips LED Horti Partners have been trained by Philips application engineers to get the best results in lighting installation, with experienced partners such as Hortiplan in turn putting their own expertise into projects. This unique collaboration between growers, partners, researchers and Philips ensures the best possible operating profit for the grower.

Kurt Cornelissen, Hortiplan’s Business Development Manager, says he is pleased with the collaboration: “People who grow heading lettuce varieties will be aware of the limitations of HPS lighting because of heat radiation. With LED lighting this limiting factor is eliminated and production can be maximized. A mobile gully system is very well suited to use with LED lighting.”
