Italy: The opinions on Enza Zaden's Makko peppers

Enza Zaden Italia has been committed to the development of innovative products that guarantee high-quality productions during the entire productive cycles for many years. The objective is to provide entrepreneurs with the chance to achieve excellent results both productivity and profitability-wise.

Makko F1 peppers, launched during the 2013/14 season, is among the latest products.

The variety is adapting quite well to the autumn-winter conditions of Sicily, with stable shapes, grades and colour.

Epicarps are thick and the colour is bright red. Fruits are 18-20 cm long with a 10-11 cm diameter. Plants are vigorous and remontant with great adaptability to weather conditions. The average weight of fruits is 20% more than the other varieties on the market. The average Brix level is 11-12°.

In addition, Makko is very interesting from a resistance point of view, especially to TSWV.

What operators say about Makko

Az. Agr. Eredi Macca
The Macca company, where Makko was born, has around 300,000 plants, transplanted on 18th September 2014.

Emanuele Macca (in the photos above and below) confirms that plants are performing like no others. The lower part set well with the high temperatures of December 2014 and the top part also set well despite the cold temperatures of late December and January.

Plants are still remontant and did not stop in February. Fruits continue to set.

Az. Agr. F.lli Sallemi
Andrea and Gaetano Sallemi (below left) transplanted on 25th September 2015 and are very happy with Makko's high productivity. Fruits are numerous, thick and with a great shape and weight, as their father Giovanni shows in the photo (below right).

They are very happy with the high quality of the fruit and report that there is hardly any second-choice produce. Plants are remontant and are continuing to set in the top part despite the adverse weather conditions.

Az. Agr. Carbonaro Angelo
Mr. Angelo Carbonaro (photo below) started cultivating Makko F1 this year and is impressed with the first produce harvested.

Fruits have uniform grade, colour, shape and thickness and the quality is high. In addition, the top part of the plant is well prepared, so future harvests are looking good. Excellent tolerance to cold weather and seasonal diseases.
