US: Red Gold plans expansion after bumper tomato crop

Tomato processor Red Gold plans to expand its Indiana warehouse operations after a big harvest this year.

Red Gold president Brian Reichart says the Elwood-based company is spending more than $8.5 million at its facilities in the Adams County town of Geneva in northeastern Indiana. The firm says the project will add more than 250,000 square feet of space.

The Herald Bulletin reports Red Gold isn't giving details on the expansion plan, but posted more than 25 full-time job openings on the company's website Tuesday.

Red Gold agriculture director Steve Smith said earlier that Indiana's tomato yields were the best he's seen in 25 years.

Red Gold has processing facilities in Elwood, Geneva, and Orestes.
