New greenhouses to appear in Dagestan

This year 30 hectares of new greenhouses for growing vegetables are planned to be built in Dagestan, - Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Republic Sharip Sharipov has informed.

Sharipov has assured that with the support of the government the development of high-tech greenhouses will shortly encourage import substitution of vegetables.

The Republic is self-sufficient in vegetables and it exports 500-600 thousand MT of production into other regions of the country. The main part of these products consists of vegetables grown in the open ground, while the share of greenhouse vegetables is relatively small. Therefore, during the last two years our priority has been the construction of greenhouses for growing vegetables, - has said Sharipov.

Dagestan has signed a number of agreements to attract investors from Azerbaijan, Spain, Iran, and Israel for the construction of greenhouses. The Republic is currently negotiating with an Israeli company Yamko Yadpaz Industries LTD a project of building a three-hectare greenhouse and a logistics centre in the Kayakent region of the republic.

One of the advantages encouraging the development of greenhouse business in Dagestan is its geothermal energy resources. Having examined the geothermal wells, the local authorities identified the suitable areas for the building sites.
