AU: Registration open for Priva's Greenhouse Crop Technicians Course

The objective of the course is to assist in the skill development of both current and prospective industry practitioners, and to deliver a range of technically based concepts and practices that are currently utilised in the modern industry. The course is delivered by Priva endorsed trainer – Tony Bundock, and other industry specialists.

Individuals completing the course can elect to participate in a further assessment process to obtain the competency “Manage a controlled growing environment” – from the Diploma of Horticulture

Location

The course will be delivered in Chisholm Institute’s National Precision Growing Centre – the only practical, purpose built training glasshouse in the Southern Hemisphere, located at 2, New Holland Drive, Cranbourne, Victoria. The course makes extensive use of the Priva Integro climate management system, and the linkage between the training area and the live cropping area on the campus

Content

  • Plant Physiology, Nutrition, and Plant Growth
  • Climate management theory and concepts, heating, ventilation, humidification, CO2 enrichment
  • Strategies and systems employed for climate management
  • Irrigation and fertigation strategies and hardware identification
  • Use of the 6 phases of growing concept, crop establishment processes, and crop growing strategies
  • Practical crop maintenance tasks
  • Greenhouse crop protection principles, hygiene, pest and disease control – IPM
  • principles
  • Labour registration and tracking- use of observation monitoring
  • Practical climate management – use of live Priva systems
  • Crop registration and plant balance
  • Advice at distance – working with consultants
