Rijk Zwaan's new pepper is called Fabris

The pepper variety which was known as 35-182 RZ has been renamed Fabris RZ. This red pepper is suitable for the traffic light packaging, available at many supermarkets. The named was unveiled by Rijk Zwaan yesterday during a special open day.

The day was organised for about 21 growers who are testing the variety. The group visited three companies where different cultivation systems are used. "Fabris RZ is easy to grow, as the variety is suitable for 2, 3 and 4 stalks systems," says Ton Berkers, crop advisor at Rijk Zwaan. "It is thus an attractive variety for many kinds of growers."

"A traffic light packaging, including red, green and yellow peppers, often weighs between 500 and 600 grams. Fabris RZ, with its 170-210 grams, is perfect for this sort of packaging. The variety's yield potential is also very high."

Wintry name
Beforehand it was already clear that the name would be related to winter, as all pepper varieties grown by Rijk Zwaan have a link with ice. The name chosen, Fabris RZ, is that of a successful Italian skater. "We expect our Fabris RZ to become a winner!" concludes Ton Berkers.
