Storm destroys greenhouses in France

The storm on the 9th June has destroyed dozens of hectares of greenhouse plantations. Damage is worse than after the storm in 1999. The Chamber of Agriculture, the region, the department and the Orléans area will participate in reparations (€90,000, which will be spent on cleaning out the greenhouses; employees and skips will need body protection).

The hail not only shattered greenhouse roofs, but sent glass flying everywhere, all over the ground and over the cucumbers. The damage occurred over a few communes with overall 63 hectares destroyed or badly damaged. Some farmers have had to put their production on hold.

Jean-Marie Fortin, President of Loiret growers and horticulturists, says that overall production and material must be taken into account to get a real idea of loss.
