France: Strawberries favourite fruit, followed closely by cherries, melons

According to a survey carried out by Toluna for LSA, strawberries are France's favourite fruit, with 67.3% of votes, followed by cherries with 59.3% then melons (58.9%).

Peaches and nectarines are also appreciated in France with 57.8% of votes. Other favourites include bananas (55.7%), apricots (51.5%). apples (51.5%), clementines and mandarins (50.9%), raspberries (50.5%) and pineapples (49.5%).

In the Spring 85.8% of the French eat fruit many times during the week, or even everyday or almost everyday for 47.9%. Lower prices (59.1%), better taste (46.9%) and local fruit (38.2%) are factors that could develop fruit consumption.

58% of French consumers are wrong about the dates of the strawberry season, believing it to be over more months than just May and June.

The Toluna survey took place on the internet in France over the 18th and 19th May 2014 with 1,500 people aged over 18.
