Canada: Hamilton City commissioning design for Gage Park greenhouse

The City of Hamilton is commissioning designs for a new tropical greenhouse at Gage Park although no money has been budgeted yet to build it.

Last month, council approved $365,000 for public works to hire a consultant to design a larger and taller tropical greenhouse than the park's current structure. The money will cover design work, engineered drawings and a tender preparation package to be used once the city is ready to solicit potential builders.

"(The new greenhouse) will include a garden courtyard that will facilitate outdoor pictures," said horticultural superintendent Marcia Monaghan, noting the public greenhouse is a popular spot for wedding photos.
