Netherlands: Personalized gift boxes to promote the use of fresh produce

Mijn Keukentuintje has launched a gift box for mothers in which daisies grow. The gift box should promote the use of fresh produce. "A new way to show how much fun it is to eat fresh, as part of the cross-media concept."

The “Mijn Keukentuintje” (“My Kitchen Garden”) concept was launched last October, marketing box-sized herbal gardens with mint, basil or cress. Designed by Fossa Eugenia, the miniature garden patch is meant to promote consumption of fresh produce. Sjoerd Jochems of Fossa Eugenia: “The Mother’s Day variety expands on the original idea, emphasizing both the importance and the fun of eating fresh. We’re not saying you should eat the daisies, but they could be used to brighten up your salad, along with your day!”

The difference with existing mini-gardens, says Sjoerd, is the personalized character. “It lends itself to Mother’s Day gifts, but also to corporate gifts and puns, like giving someone a gift box with mint because his work arrived in mint condition, something like that.”

Strawberries, arugula, clover; In the future, Sjoerd sees many more opportunities for mini-kitchen gardens: filled with strawberries, arugula, or lucky clover.
