Netherlands: Cucumber Grower Prinse administers crop protection with LVM

In 2011, Dutch cucumber grower Twan Prinse had his company expanded. In the new addition to his business, named 'The Lindenborg’ he opted again for the Enbar Low Volume Fog (Laag Volume Mist, or LVM) for the administration of pesticides.

Twan had a permanent installation built, the type U2. U2 units are controlled from a fixed point. The grower from Breda is very satisfied with the installation: "It's a lot easier than spraying in the regular way. Also, I have no interference at all. Once a year I have some maintenance done, but that's all."

Enbar LVM

In the nozzle of the Enbar, high pressure air is mixed with water. This forms tiny drops (average droplet size 14 microns) that spread nicely through the air. The fans then distribute the resultant vapour. Through this application technique, fog penetrates into the crop and is optimally distributed over the surface.

The Enbar is available in a mobile version (1U3 and 22U3) or as a fixed unit (U1 and U2) that are available in sets of one or two units, which makes it possible to treat larger surfaces at once.

Enbar LVM dosage
The amount of crop protection used in the Enbar LVM equipment is usually the prescribed dosage. The amount of agent in 100 litres of water is sprayed over 1,000 sqm.

Considerations when making the spray liquid ready for use:
  • dissolve agents in lukewarm water.
  • in thin liquid agents ± 700 cc of water and agent per 1,000 sqm.
  • in powders or flowables ± 1,000 cc water and agent per 1,000 sqm. Note here that the used liquid remains thin.
  • clean the containers properly after use.
