Germany: Containers of pesticides and fertilizers collected for free in Niedersachsen

In the German state of Lower Saxony, the 'Packmittelrücknahme Agrar ", abbreviated to ‘Pamira', will be recycled, reports the German website Gabot.de. This German collection system allows growers to freely discard empty containers of pesticides and liquid fertilizers between June 3 and July 19 at 44 collection points in Niedersachsen. The German crop protection industry started the initiative in 1996 to ensure that packages of crop protection and fertilization are safely discarded.

The containers must be rinsed and dropped at the collection points without residues. Jerry cans that contain product residues will not be accepted and must be labelled as toxic waste.

Every year the number of dealers, collectors and growers participating in the Pamira system grows. The total collection volume in 2013 increased by 40 tons or 1.6% compared to the previous year.
