Guatemala: Luiten Greenhouses participates in pilot project “Journey2Sustainability”

On Friday, April 25th, 2014 a unique project, known as 'Journey2Sustainability' was opened and presented in Guatemala. This project has been initiated and completed as a result of a very intense cooperation between seventeen Dutch companies, participating in the cluster Nethwork, and the Guatemalan horticultural enterprise Palki S.A.

Palki S.A. grows Beaucarnia, Yuka and Succulenta and will operate this project based on sustainability and social involvement. One of the main goals of Nethwork is the sustainable development of the agricultural and horticultural market in Latin America.

Luiten Greenhouses, one of Nethwork's members, has contributed considerably to this project. In a project of 10.368 m2 several zones have been fitted with horizontal pull-wire screen installations with AS15 open cloth (see photo 1). The fully automatic Twin-walls and gables have fitted with SolarWoven cloth. For insect-netting in the ventilation windows and in the gables we used Econet 3977.

The completed pilot-project is considered a starting-point in Latin America. Sustainability is one of the keywords. In this part of the world special growing technology is required to get the desired results. The excellent cooperation and expertise of the Nethwork partners, combined with the goals, requirements and local experience of Palki S.A. have resulted in a unique pilot-project.

To celebrate the official opening of this project, the Nethwork members have donated a water purification unit to a local school so that the children can drink clean and healthy water at school.
