Netherlands: Demo nursery explores Vietnamese nursery creation

Kenlog bv and Demokwekerij Westland, in co-operation with directors of the Dong Thap province in Vietnam, plan to investigate the possibility of realizing a Horticultural & Agricultural Centre of Excellence in Dong Thap. The initiative is supported by Vietnam Trade International. The Dutch Ministry of Economic Affairs has pledged financial support to the cooperating parties.

Left: Westland Mayor Van der Tak, ambassador Nguyen van Doan and the delegation of Dong Thap province. Right: Peet van Adrichem (Demokwekerij), Nguyen Thanh Hung (vice president of Dong Thap province) and Henk van Eijk (Kenlog b.v.).

Henk van Eijk and Peet van Adrichem travelled to Vietnam in October 2013 to sign a Letter of Intent with the aforementioned parties. The Vietnamese are keen to realize a centre like the Demokwekerij Westland in the province of Dong Thap, as there is an urgent need for practical and usable "green" knowledge. Vietnamese authorities want to increase the short-term productivity of vegetables and flowers in a sustainable way, as well as improve food safety.

The next step will be to build the centre and start training the local population. After that the intention is to develop a large and professional horticultural production centre in the Mekong Delta. In this way the two Westland entrepreneurs can bring about the export of applicable knowledge and the supply of horticultural technology in Vietnam.
