Diffused glass roof, inter-lighting with LEDS, and a CHP:

UK: Opening of new glasshouse for R&L Holt in Evesham

R & L Holt is a family run business, dedicated to growing tomatoes since 1980. They currently produce tomatoes in 22 acres spread across three busy nurseries Sandylands Nurseries, Hornsfield Nurseries and Springhill Nurseries all located in the Vale of Evesham. The R & L Holt partnership was originally formed by Rick and Laura Holt and has now expanded to include their children Roly and Felicity Holt as working partners.

The business started with the purchase of Sandylands Nurseries 1979 and the building of three glasshouses on the site appropriately named Tom Dick and Harry, and a few years later a fourth glasshouse, Fred. In September 2013 it was time to demolish Tom Dick and Harry and to bring Sandylands Nurseries right up to date and as modern and efficient as the other two nurseries in the business.

The new glasshouse on the site, named FREDA, is now complete and cropping. It is an 8500m² modern glasshouse with a diffused glass roof, inter-lighting with LEDS, and a CHP (Combined Heat and power Unit). The site also boasts an annex with despatch area and office suite.

FREDA is being official opened on Tuesday 20 May at 10am in the presence of the local Mayor, prospective local MP, horticultural specialists and representatives from the businesses involved in the project. The event will also be support by the British Tomato Growers’ Association and representatives from the tomato industry. As the opening is taking place during British Tomato Week the Holt family are hoping for a great turn out proving that there is much to celebrate in the British tomato industry.

For further information or if you wish to attend the opening please visit www.randlholt.co.uk or call Laura on 01386 761816.
